Nasty, indeed.
A chicken wire fencing would surely do.
Oh, bad dogs indeed. We don't have dogs but have had to rabbit-proof the fence to allow anything to grow above stump sized. As I (badly) type this it's 22C and there is thunder rolling round. Tomorrow the high is estimated to be 5C with a slight chance of snow. Spring is weird and erratic round here.
